The Darien Lions Club 'New Member Achievement Award' was instituted in 2004 to give special recognition to a member with five or fewer years of membership for outstanding contributions to the Club.

Lion Andrew Brunsen is our New Member Achievement Award recipient for 2015- 2016.

Congratulations Lion Andrew Brunsen - Our New Member Achievement Award recipient.

Congratulations to Lion Dennis Breier.  Our New Member Achievement Award recipient for 2014- 2015.

Congratulations to Lion Art Kardatzke.  Our New Member Achievement Award recipient for 2013- 2014.

Congratulations to Lion Tom Belczak.  Our New Member Achievement Award recipient for 2012- 2013.

Congratulations to Lion Doug Barnes.  Our New Member Achievement Award recipient for 2011- 2012.

Lion Doug's enthusiasm is contagious.  He brings out the best in those around him.  Surely his good natured style and can-do attitude will continue to propel him in the club.

Lion Bob Smid is our New Member Achievement Award recipient for 2010-11.  Lion Bob joined the organization early in 2009. Since then, he has been active in updating and maintaining the web-site as part of the Technology committee.  During the following year he completed development of a separate web site to help promote the 'Darien Lions Club Foundation' which is a separate entity.  The new Foundation web site adds content rich information on how donors can make contributions to helping the needy while benefiting from tax-exemptions of a recognized 501(c)3 fund.

In 2010 Lion Bob was asked to chair the Technology committee and continue efforts to update the web site utilizing upgraded web development tools.  The New Member Achievement Award is in recognition of the positive efforts and contribution he has made to the Club.

(Bob wishes to thank the overwhelming number of members who provide their encouragement, and especially for putting together a most memorable award presentation.)

Lion Mark Kiwiet is our New Member Achievement Award recipient for 2009-10.

A member of the Club since 2006, Lion Mark has been an active contributor in just a short period of time.  A Lion Tamer in 2008, then Publicity Director, and chairman of the Darien Fest Corn-Tent committee, Lion Mark always seems willing to help accomplish more for the Club.  We recognize his ability to combine clear and level thinking with providing direction for the Club, as well as the positive influence he has been.  Congratulations Lion Mark!  (Pictured at left with his wife Janine).

Lion Mark Piccoli is our New Member Achievement Award recipient for 2008-09.

" I've been a member of the Darien Lions Club since 2004.  I have chaired the Fourth of July Parade committee, been a captain on the Big Raffle Committee and twice a captain for the Calling Committee.   For the 2009 / 2010 year I am the Calling Committee chairman.  I have been a Darien resident for 24 years, married to Karen for 29 years and have two grown daughters.  As you can see by the photo, I enjoy sailing in my spare time."

Lion Adam Retzler is our 2006-07 New Member Achievement Award winner.

Our 2005-06 New Member Achievement Award winner is Lion Kevin Monaghan.

This year's (2004-05) New Member Achievement Award goes to Lion Kerry Spitznagle.

The first Darien Lion to receive this prestigious award (2003-04) is Lion Wayne Scharnak, shown here with his lovely wife Joanne.

Lion Wayne became a Darien Lion in October, 1999.  Since that time, he has chaired and worked on many committees, sponsored new members, and served on the Board of Directors.  A six-year resident of Darien, he and his wife of 30 years have three children.  He has been an employee of the U. S. Government for over 30 years.

Congratulations to Lion Wayne on your New Member Achievements.  Way to go!
